Letters, diaries and miscellaneous documents relating to both Sir John and Lady Jane Franklin. Many of the papers are only copies (some with omissions). not original, as, according to Rawnsley, after Lady Franklin's death her niece and companion, Sophia Cracroft, selected some papers for publication and had illegible ones copied or extracted and the originals were destroyed. The copies or extracts have been corrected and edited.

Papers of the executors of Rev. Archibald Macarthur a Presbyterian minister who returned to England in 1836 leaving his affairs and three of his children, Mary, Henry William and John, in the care of trustees and guardians, namely John Walker, Henry Hopkins and John Geiss. The eldest son, Archibald, accompanied him to England where he apparently died before his father, who died in January 1847. Macarthur's will, made in 1836, left his property to be divided between his surviving children on reaching the age of 21. The guardians were named as executors and trustees. Collection consists of legal papers including appointment of trustees, will & property trusts also included are some miscellaneous papers of John Walker of John Walker & Son, Barrack Street, Hobart, manufacturers of fine flour.

Collection of correspondence and documents relating to family and real estate

The correspondence consists of letters addressed to James Backhouse and his companion relating to their missionary journey. Most are from people in official positions thanking the missionaries for their work, acknowledging books and reports, replying to requests for information or offering introductions, help and hospitality and also some discussion of religious matters and references to botany in which James Backhouse was interested.

Wool sale accounts 1830 - 1836. Accounts of wool sold in London, addressed by various agents to William Lyttleton of Launceston. Settled near Westbury in 1825.

Material relating to convicts including returns and orders, medical certificates, also records, pardons, completion or remission of sentence, warrants and miscellaneous notes.

This booklet lists Tasmanian aboriginal vocabulary and contains 332 words and 72 names of men and women. A pencilled note on front states: By the Rev. J. Norman, Sorell. The paper has a watermark date of 1827.

Letters and photocopies of documents regarding Gunn's involvement with convicts and bush rangers and as a police magistrate

List of subscriptions dated 1824 for a piece of plate to be presented to Mr Taylor of Macquarie River for his conduct in resisting an attack upon his house by convicts from Macquarie Harbour. The subscriptions are noted in "dollars" (from $1 - $4). 43 names or signatures of settlers are entered.

Miscellaneous papers and photographs of the Murray and Archer families. Includes some Archer architectural plans, photographs of Circular Head, Tasmania area and collection of carte de visite of unknown subjects by various Tasmanian and Australian photographers.

Collection consists of handwritten diaries and personal family correspondence. The Boyes diaries are detailed and include waspish comment on his contemporaries. His letters to his wife are also informative.

Collection consists of farm and weather records of William Pike's Park Farm and Jericho, Tasmania, also included is the journal of William Pike voyage to V.D.L with his family on the ship "Thalia" August 1822 to July 1823

Estate accounts dated June 1822 to 31 December 1831. Day book recording daily notes of work and expenditure relating to the Largebaan (Largiebann) estate, which merged on 26 May 1827 with the Kenmore property (Macquarie Plains, Upper Derwent).

It includes such notes as: 'brought in yesterday from Mr. Parkers, 4 MB wethers, of which killed and sent to Mr Spodes one W. 40t lb (Nov. 1825); 'R. Mather dr. to Lar~ebaan £12 • 12 ' (Feb. 1825); 'Commenced ploughing' (21 Feb. 1825); sent Mr Knopwood a sucking pig on 18th' (21 Feb. 1325); Also sundries, such as boots, 2 doz cups & saucers, 1 sheep shears at 6/-, 2 pairs shoes for Mrs Ballantine, Charles Burns a pocket knife' (sums of money were not always entered).
Also references to 'constableship'.

At the back of the volume were entered journals of sheep owned by various people, including: James Robertson, Miss H. Ballentine, Miss H. P. Ballentine, Joseph Ballentine, Nelly Miller; noting marks, numbers of lambs, ewes, (gifts from D.B., Mr Downie & others).

This volume was probably kept by Duncan Ballantine, chief district
constable and pound keeper at New Norfolk, who received a grant of land in the Derwent Valley above New Norfolk.

Collection consists of a diary and memoranda book, typed copies of the diary and some correspondence.

Log kept by Captain Joshua Fergusson of the brig "Jupiter" on his voyage from Calcutta to van Diemen's Land 14 September 1816 to 9 December 1816 and from Van Diemen's Land to Port Jackson and return January to March 1817.
The volume is a standard ship's log, recording course, winds, latitude and other nautical observations. On the first page is 'A list of the Brig Jupiter's crew' including 'Joshua Fergusson, Captain, English' and' George Fergusson, 1st officer, English' and twenty Indian seamen. On the last page is a note (written twice) 'Joshua Fergusson, Tinder Box Bay 2 December 1862'

Log book 1812 - 1815. Log of ships 'Borneo' (1812-Apr. 1813), Frederick (1813-1814), brig 'Mary & Sally (1814 - 1815) on voyages between Calcutta, Mauritius and V.D.L.
Includes a water colour sketch of Escapelly on the coast near Madras, and navigational diagrams.

Letter from H. T. Whick, musician, H.M.S. Victory, Portsmouth, dated 5 December 1812 to his sister, written from 'Victory' Portsmouth, including the news that he was likely to be sent to Spain and a copy of music of six hornpipes for his 'dear little nephew'; addressed to Thomas Lane, junior, jappaner and painter, Old Blue Bell, Wednesfield, Near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.

Ship's accounts dated 1812. Addressed Jacob Mountgarrett for supplies for a boat's crew, including potatoes, rice, pork, sugar, wheat, 2 oars, seal hooks, whaler's lance, skins, etc. and for each man (names listed) rum, tobacco, shirts, trousers etc.

The William and John Clark Papers are a record of a settler family in Tasmania. They include papers concerning the management of the Cluny property, a few papers relating to Bothwell and John Clark's correspondence concerning his work as a magistrate. There are also letters to John Clark from William Barnes (1791 ?-1848). brewer of Launceston, 1829-1839; Matthew Curling Friend of Newnham, Port Officer
at George Town, 1833-1841, and from Charles Arthur (1808-1884), nephew of and Aide-de-Camp to Lt.
Governor George Arthur, 1827-1829. There are also letters from British army officers' wives and daughters addressed to Jane Clark. Also included are papers relating to the Weston Family, Ann (neeClark) and William Pritchard Weston

Lease granted by Edward Lord, Commanding Officer of H.M.settlement Hobart Town V.D.L., 1st Lieut. Royal Marine Forces, 24 May 1810, to John Taylor (1), John Taylor (2), both privates in Royal Marines, of an allotment containing 18 perches, bounded by gardens occupied by Ann Donohough and Peter Douglas, for 14 years at an annual rent of 10s 6d.
Signed by Edward Lord. Applied seal, black wax- shield of wheatsheaf, scythe and rake, motto 'Hobartia crevit '

Land grant, dated 1805 and signed by Philip Gidley King, of 100 acres on the river Derwent, V.D.L. to Henry Hayes, reserving a road one chain broad communicating with Mill Farm. Endorsed with record of transfers of the property, 1811 - 1825. Final transfer: Joshua Ferguson to Edward Foord Bromley.

Grant dated 18 December 1805 to Henry Hayes of 100 acres on the Derwent to be known as Henrietta Farm, to be held for five years free of taxes, rents etc. but timber suitable for naval purposes was to be reserved for the use of the Crown.

Typed draft of a' pamphlet' bound and interleaved with blank pages and corrected in ink. - eg the addition of 'By Parker and. Morton' under the title and. the alteration of 'I' to 'we' and: 'procured by myself' to
'procured by Capt. Parker R.N.' in the preface. The 'key' is described in the preface as 'meant for those who are not up in scientific terms'. 'The Systematic List of Tasmanian Birds' by Colonel W.V. Legge (1841-1918) was followed and so the 'Key' was probably compiled between 1900-1907 by Capt. Arthur Charles Parker (c1860-1920) and Alexander Morton (c1854-1920) secretary of the Royal Society of Tasmania

Noblet, Liege [Belgium] The plates show drawings of various machinery for coal mining, including carriages, compressed air system, lifts, pumps, digging machines, props, etc. and drawings of mines and coal seams of the mines of the Meuse and Ruhr. Legends at the top of each plate are in French, with English and German translations below the plate.
