        <p>Dr Guiler was born in Ireland and moved to Tasmania in 1947 to work at the Zoology Department, University of Tasmania. He became an early researcher into the Tasmanian Devil, and a leading researcher on the Thylacine. Guiler was a Lecturer 1948-1951, Senior Lecturer 1952-1973 and then Reader 1974-1983 in Zoology at the University of Tasmania. He published over 100 scientific papers including 6 on the Tasmanian Tiger. He conducted several expeditions into remote areas of Tasmania.
