Memoranda book dated 1801 -1802 "Book of observations" or memoranda of shipping commission accounts from 1798, including olive oil,iron,lead,tinned plate,caviar from Russia, earthenware,flax,cotton, Italian marble etc. Also notes of current prices,freight charges,currency,goods wanted and available, port dues and captains' "privileges" at various ports, including Naples, Barcelona, Leghorn,Gallipoli. Journal notes of loading and transactions on voyage carrying tar and pitch from Hull to Gibraltar or Naples for Messrs. Knox and Hay February-July 1802.

Accounts of oil consigned to John Leake of Hamburg (ie.whale oil, black, brown and linseed oil). Also a few other commodities such as sewing cotton from Dacca Twist co., Manchester, redlead, 201 bags Bengal turmeric, Indian tobacco, rum.

Purchases made by Leake before departure for V.D.L., including: clothing, cloth, farm implements, harness, ox harness, ploughs, carts, carpentry and joinery tools, millstones, smith's anvil, seeds of grass, clover, rye, parsley etc. for pasture, assorted garden vegetable seeds, flowers, hawthorn berries, stove, pots and pans including cast iron girdle, "tea boiler" and camp oven,candle molds,12 boxes of crown glass, drawers and bookcase, sea grass mattress, medicines, stationery, a patent brewing machine, a pair of brass barreled pistols and bullet molds.

Account with Schroder & Grossmann dated November 1821 to August 1822. Small notebook: "Contra buch fur Sr. J. Leake mit Schroder & Grossmann A.1821", containing chronological entries of fairly large sums and personal names or figures.
The notebook was later used as a diary by Mrs E. Leake and some draft letters by W.B. Leake are noted in the back.

Hamburg Militia document dated 18 August 1821. Notice signed "Furst" Captain 3rd Company Citizens' Militia, reminding John Leake of his obligation to serve and requesting him to supply himself with uniform and arms. (written in German)

Wood of Hawkridge, Snakebanks, concerning his financial distress, debts, loans from Leake, mortgages on his property, attempts to sell "Windfalls" etc.; Leake to take his property and assets in trust (1844), meetings of creditors; some letters from Louis Wood when Wood was ill. Also promissory notes, accounts, letters from John Swan (1844, 1846, 1850) and Henry Priaulx (1844). Wood's letters frequently mention his wife's poor health and his own illness and also include general references: servants 1834-6); sun dial (10 Sept. 1836); ball (14 May 1842); river flooded 350 acres of corn (14 Sept. 1842); rebuilding river banks (Oct. 1842); fire damage in Hamburg (2 Oct. 1842).

Hean, Max Oldaker and Sansom's personal writing).

Cream folder containing letters to and from Rodney and Joan Bennett. These letters (predominantly from 1936-1948) focus on Sansom and R. Bennett's individual writing and their collaboration with school texts. The most recent letter is dated 23/11/73. The folder includes one letter from Winifred Scott about Sansom's "Speech Rhymes", and part of a letter from an unidentified correspondent.

• Extracts from letters praising the London Speech Festival 1935, organised by Sansom.
• A personal reference, dated 25/6/1934, from the Sales Manager of the Ironworks Department of the firm Newton Chambers and Co where Sansom worked for eight years. The reference notes that Sansom began work in the firm as a junior clerk and had worked as Traveller for the Light Castings Department for the last two years of his service.
• The original of the Marjorie Gullan Certificate awarded Sansom by the London Speech Fellowship and Institute in August 1936.
• Original certificates awarded Sansom by the English Verse Speaking Association competitions in July 1934: First in Class III Dramatic Poetry; First in the Final Class; First in Lyrical Poetry.
