      <note>
        <p>Lawrence John Hayns (1894 -1970) was born in the U.K. and served in the army during the Great war. He married Mary Magaret Crane in 1921 in Leicester. A book of his notes on wool, cotton and principles of weaving and knitting suggests that he might have been apprenticed there to a textile or hosiery business. In the 1920 's he migrated to Tasmania as an<lb/>orchardist. He also worked as a stockman to a George Town Butcher, as a ploughman, at Kellsall and Kemp's Factory, Invermay, and finally was a lighthouse keeper. In 1951 he was head keeper of Swan Island light house. His son Maxwell Ernest (1924-1948), attended Launceston Grammer School, joined the RAAF in world War II and was killed in a car accident in 1948.</p>
