On 23 April 1918 the inaugural meeting of the Women's University Union Graduate Branch was held. That body affiliated in 1921 with the newly founded Australian Federation of University Women and assumed the title "Tasmanian Women Graduates' Association". The title changed in 1963 to the Tasmanian Association of University Women Graduates and in 1974 to "Australian Federation of University Women - Tasmania". The Northern Branch was formed at an inaugural meeting on 19 June 1941 as a branch of the Tasmanian Women Graduates Association (as it was then called). Australian Federation of University Women (Tasmania) Inc. (previous name, - 2009) now Australian Federation of Graduate Women (Tasmania) As of 2010, Tasmanian membership of the Australian Federation of Graduate Women was being managed through the ACT branch.
